Flood Lakes Park

I'm unsure what this location will be called but it is growing more natural with each seasons. The birds, butterflies, ducks and human all love these man made lakes and this quiet figure eight trail.

Along the Credit River

The path along the Credit River is full of natural plants and wildlife. Families walk, people bike, couples picnic in and along the trails to River Grove Community centre.

Local Fox

Another fox sighting is Streetsville. This straggly looking young fox was wandering mid afternoon up Thomas Street. Stopping to scratch every few feet he disappeared into shrubs on the hill. I wish there was more abundant green space for these beautiful creatures to keep them safe in our community.

Fox By Streetsville Secondary

I spotted this Red Fox by Streetsville secondary. It concerns me a bit that she does not have a better place to hunt. Makes me think a little more green space would do great.

Streetsville Credit River Salmon Run

The Credit River runs right through Streetsville and is home to a Salmon/Trout run in October. Some very big fish can be seen displaying their strength and determination. I have a few favorite spots to watch, one of my favorite spots being the Dam near Vic Johnston arena. If you like you can get involved with the CRAA and help with the fish count. I have never caught a trout on one of our Algonquin trips so it is nice to have the event so close to home. What a wonderful thing to happen in Streetsville.

Old Canada Brick Yard

This was the site of the old open pit clay mine. I remember getting into big trouble for trespassing into the mine. The huge pit was one of the coolest places in Streetsville as a young boy. They have now  filled the mine in and a business park is planned for the new land. Mullet creek runs along the east site and is lined with several new man made ponds to replace the old wet land. I hope next summer the park and ponds are in working order. There is a nice bike paths that run the parameter of the 3 ponds.  We got a lot of rocks for our garden. My wife loves to go for walks here.

The Streetsville Beaver Dam

There has been a family of beavers living in Streetsville since as long as I can remember. Having nature so close is part of what make Streetsville such a nice place to live. If you follow a small path next to the river at Vic Johnston park there is a beaver lodge at the end. The beavers don't always show but I have consistently seen them for 25 years. Look out for the the delicious black berries that grow vigorously behind the beaver lodge.
